'The biggest lesson of Haryana is...': Kejriwal's first reaction after election trends show BJP's victory in the state
NEW DELHI: With the BJP set for a comfortable victory with a lead of 50 out of 90 seats in the assembly, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president Arvind Kejriwal addressed MONKEY City councilors on Tuesday called for caution and care in political contests. He said the “biggest lesson” from the election results is that one should never be “overconfident” going into the elections.
“Let’s see what the results are in Haryana. The biggest lesson from this is never to be overconfident in elections,” Kejriwal said, highlighting the unpredictability of election results.
He stressed the importance of treating every election seriously, noting that “no election should be taken lightly” and that every seat presents its own challenges.
The AAP’s strategy in Haryana has also come under scrutiny. The party’s attempt to form an alliance with Congress before the elections failed due to differences over seat-sharing arrangements, leading to AAP contesting 89 of the total 90 seats independently. This decision has proven to be detrimental, with AAP candidates trailing their BJP and Congress counterparts in almost all constituencies.
Kejriwal had earlier claimed that no government could be formed in Haryana without the support of AAP. In a bid to regroup, he urged party councilors to focus on the coming Delhi Votes of the Assembly scheduled for February next year.
He emphasized the importance of grassroots governance, saying, “You will play the most important role in these elections. We will win the elections only if you ensure proper waste collection and disposal in your areas, which is very fundamental.”
