Posted in a video on TapAlexi Lubomirski, 50, remembered that he had taken the official portraits of the Sussexes for both their engagement in November 2017 and the wedding in May.

The father of two, who was born in the UK but is now located in New York, was already known for his glamorous portraits of Hollywood and Royalty.

The death photographer is also a prince of the Polish house of Lubomirski, whose royal origins extend for 500 years on his father’s side and gives him the title: “His serene highness.”

Still, when he received a phone call from Kensington Palace shortly after the news about the engagement of Harry and Meghan was announced, he thought he was ‘pranked’.

As part of his ‘RESHOOT’ series, where he visits old photo shoots from the archives and explores the stories behind them, Alexi recently decided to share a glimpse in what it was behind the scenes of his famous shoots with Meghan and Harry.

Two weeks after receiving the phone call, Alexi traveled to Frogmore House in Windsor to meet Harry and Meghan.

Thinking about the experience, he remembered how the almost matches were so in love that they were ‘glowing’ and ‘twinkling’.

He said: “At one point I looked at them while they were talking and sat next to each other.

‘Every time one of them spoke, the other would look at them and literally glow.

‘And it was so beautiful to see, you know when you are sitting next to a few that is fresh in love or have great news.

“They just glowed, and they would just look at each other and there would be this twinkle.”

Alexi had prepared some reference photos of other royals to use as inspiration, but decided to ‘forget’ them when he saw how the couple were on each other.

“I just want to photograph you like you,” he remembered that the couple told. “All magic is there for me.”

Alexi continued to talk about each image of the shoot separately and paused to think about a black and white photo of the couple.

The candid image, later used on magazine covers around the world, shows Harry who stares at his upcoming bride, while Meghan is in his coat with her ring.

Alexi said it was ‘deadly quiet’ on the set, because the chemistry was so strong between the couple that it seemed as if they were kissing – something that was usually not shown in official royal photos.

He explained how he managed to influence the moment to catch the perfect shot.

Alexi said: ‘I said:’ Make sure you don’t kiss! “What made them laugh. There was a moment of laughter between them, and it was so beautiful.

‘I was so excited to get that photo because it was a wonderful moment.

“These photos just went everywhere. I was so shocked about how far they went. ‘

Alexi and his wife Giada were later invited to Harry and Meghan’s wedding in St George’s Chapel in Windsor in 2018.

A month later he was asked to make the official portraits and explained that he felt a ‘much pressure’ because his name was confirmed to the audience in advance.

The day itself, he said, was ‘bizarre’ because of the constant cameras, but also ‘great’ and ‘beautiful’.

He remembered that he took a formal image of the whole family, with Harry and Meghan in the middle, surrounded by the queen, Prince Phillip, Prince William, Kate and the royal children.

The ceremony was monitored by nearly two billion viewers worldwide and hordes of benefactors stood along the streets of Windsor to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds.

In a statement released after the engagement shoot, Alexi said: ‘It was an incredible honor to be asked to document this wonderful event, but also a great privilege to be invited to share and a witness to the love of this young couple for each other.

“I can’t help it, but smile when I look at the photos we took from them, so their happiness was together.”

The photographer had never made an engagement recording before he accepted the prestigious committee of Harry and Meghan.

“It was one of the easiest, most cheerful jobs because they were so wonderfully in love,” he said e! News.

He added that no effort was needed to catch the couple in various romantic poses, after he told them to be himself just as he took their photos.

“It was nutty. It was a very surreal end of the year because it came out of nowhere, “he remembered.

‘I think one of Meghan’s friends saw me on Instagram that I was in England during the announcement of the engagement.

“Later I was told that this person said to her:” You have to meet Alexi. He is great. You would love him, “and that was it.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle later came as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and then moved to the US.
