The exact time to score the best TK Maxx bargains and why staff use ‘hashing’

IT’S one of the country’s most beloved discount stores, but did you know there’s a specific time to head to TK Maxx to score the best bargains?

That’s according to a former employee who shared his story on TikTok about the retail chain and how consumers can get cheap items.

The former employee, who worked at TK Maxx for five years, said there were “secrets” the major retailer didn’t want its customers to know, including the best time to enter the store.

According to the former employee, who calls himself Patience on the platform, shoppers who are conscious about money should come to the store in the morning, when the stores are open.

She noticed this in the videois because most stores only deliver their groceries just before they open their doors to the public.

“I know for a fact that at my TK Maxx they delivered their products every morning at 6am and that people were busy sorting the products and putting them on the shelves from 6am.”

In some cases, stores receive double deliveries, resulting in brand new items arriving in stores late in the afternoon, around 3pm.

“Technically, the best times to shop are from 8am to 10am and from 4pm to closing,” she revealed in the clip, advising “never to go during lunch.”

Another reason bargain hunters should get in early is the ‘fresh’ stock on sale, whether you’re looking for makeup, skincare, designer items or even chic handbags.

Meanwhile, if you’re on the hunt for the most expensive items, you probably won’t have any luck finding them near the front of the store, according to Patience.

“Because then people would come and steal them, of course.”

Clothes that are “reasonably priced” but “still from good brands” will go into the “features” section, “so you don’t have to search”.

Other TK Maxx buyers will also have noticed by now that it is quite difficult to find two of the same items together.

As the former employee explains, this is a process called “hashing,” and the goal is to prevent people from finding and stealing all the expensive stuff in one place.

‘Let’s say I have a few tops, say Ralph Lauren, I’ll put an ad first, then a few random brands, then another one.

”You really have to figure it out. It’s kind of like a treasure hunt.”

Dozens of TK Maxx superfans responded en masse to thank the former employee for the valuable information, while others shared their tips for the ultimate shopping experience.

How does TK Maxx Designer sell cheap?

  • TK Maxx follows an off-price business model to get designer products cheaply
  • It buys goods from various brands and designers at a discount and then sells them to customers at prices lower than traditional stores.
  • The range in the points of sale often consists of surplus items, items from last season and items from cancelled orders.
  • The Gold Label is a premium collection of designer and luxury products from TK Maxx.
  • If you like branded clothing, this is the label to look out for.

One of them said: “Always ask them to do a RIL (return) on items with a red sticker at the checkout so you know they are fully discounted.

“Chances are it will go down once they check it.”

Another person who claimed to work at the supermarket chain said: ‘The delivery service I worked for worked every night, so by the next morning everything was gone.’

“Markdowns were on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.”

“Oh, that’s why it’s called a treasure hunt,” said someone else.
