Premier League referee Uriah Rennie died in tragic at the age of 65.
Legend Rennie had Recently opened about a rare condition That left him paralyzed from the waist.
Once described as the “strongest” referee in the top division of England, Rennie distributed more than 300 top flight matches between 1997 and 2008.
But after experiencing intense back pain during vacation in Turkey last year, Rennie was admitted to the Northern General Hospital in October.
He told the BBC: “I thought I had just slept funny on a lounger, I hoped to go paragliding, but because of my back pain I couldn’t go.
“Towards the end of the vacation I couldn’t sleep with pain, and by the time I got home, I could hardly walk.
“I put on my back for a month and have been in bed for another four months.
“They kept me in the hospital until February, they found a lump that pushed my spine and it was a rare neurological condition, so it’s not something they can work on.
“I had to learn to move all the way again, I retrain my legs.”
He continued: “It was strange – I went from running the city to Essence to be for so long in the course of the traction.
“I had no earlier back problems, but quite suddenly I couldn’t move and I was in a spinal unity.”
Have been a magistrate Sheffield Since 1996 and campaign for issues such as improving equality and inclusion in sport, Rennie was about to start a new role as Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University when he first went to the hospital.
He later spent much of his time in physiotherapy and completing movement exercises in his house.
He described his state of movement a few months ago, said: “I can move my feet and I can stand with a frame attached to my wheelchair, but I have to work on my buttock muscles.
“I rock around in my chair to do my exercises, I am a very good, conforming patient.
“It was frustrating, but family and friends were invaluable, the hospital was absolutely fantastic and the university has been exceptional.”
Rennie wrote history in 1997 when he Premier League‘s first black referee, who has a match officer in between Derby County And Wimbledon.
A FA statement was: “The FA referee department is sad to hear from the death of the former FIFA and Premier League referee, Uriah Rennie.
“Uriah will be remembered forever as a real pioneer of the game. Our thoughts are currently with Uriah’s family and friends.”
