The Fitbit app can now answer questions about your health with Gemini

Fitbit is getting a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will help users gain more insight into their health and fitness data. On Tuesday, Google’s wearable brand announced that it is rolling out its first AI feature to a limited number of users. Those who qualify can find the feature in the “You” tab of the Fitbit app. The latest introduction is called Insights Explorer, which borrows Gemini’s capabilities to provide a conversational experience to learn more about the data collected by the wearable device.

Fitbit gets an AI function

Last year, the Fitbit app got a major makeover. Google said the new app design focused on simplicity and ease of use. The entire experience was divided into three tabs: Today, Coach, and You. The ‘You’ tab contained all user data and graphs. Here, users could also sign up for Fitbit Labs, a new part of the Fitbit experience that offered new and experimental features.

In a community afterthe company has now confirmed that the first feature under the Fitbit Labs umbrella is now rolling out to select users. Only users who have previously signed up for the service will get it. Once they see the feature, they should sign up for it. Those who have access to the feature have been asked to share their feedback as well.

The feature is known as Insights Explorer. It’s powered by Gemini, Google’s large language model (LLM), and offers a conversational experience. Users can chat with the tool and learn more about their health and fitness data. “For example, you could get interesting explanations of how your activity affects your sleep, with a graph to help you visualize the connection,” the post added.

Not much is known about the feature at the moment. The community post did not share details on whether the chatbot allows follow-up questions, whether it can generate different types of charts and graphs, or whether it supports two-way conversations similar to Gemini Live. Fitbit specifically emphasized that more such features will be released in the near future.
