Former New York Governor David Paterson was brutally attacked by a group of teenagers after he and his stepson tried to prevent them from climbing a fire escape in Manhattan.
David Paterson, 70, and his stepson, Anthony Chester Sliwa, 20, encountered the teens on Second Avenue near East 96th Street shortly before 9 p.m. Friday.
Apparently a confrontation broke out after Paterson, who is legally blind, and Anthony – who grew up with special needs – told the three young men to stop climbing the fire escape.
The teenagers then launched a senseless attack on the 70-year-old and his stepson. According to police, they both suffered facial injuries New York Post.

Following the incident, the former governor was rushed to New York Cornell Medical Center, where he was reportedly in “ok.” NBC.
Anthony, the biological son of 2021 Republican mayoral hopeful Curtis Sliwa, suffered more serious bruises and cuts but is expected to recover. He may also have a concussion.
A Paterson spokesman issued a statement saying the governor and his stepson “suffered some injuries but were able to fend off their attackers.”
The statement also said that they “have already filed a police report.”
After the attack, the group of teens quickly fled the scene. The authorities were looking for them.
Paterson, a Democrat, was the 55th governor of New York, serving from 2008 to 2010.
He was the first legally blind person to assume the governorship in any state. And he was the first black governor of New York.

He then calmly walked away from the scene, leaving the old woman sprawled in pain on the sidewalk.
Following the incident, the former governor was rushed to New York Cornell Medical Center, where he was reportedly in “ok.”
In July, another elderly woman was randomly attacked in Greenwich Village.
Around 9 a.m., 90-year-old D’yan Forest, who has been called “the world’s oldest working female comedian,” was walking to the gym when an unknown woman punched her in the face.
The force of the blow caused Forest to cower and fall to the ground, while the attacker fled the scene.
David Paterson is not the first prominent person to be the victim of an unprovoked attack in New York.
