The Glasshouse Hotel is a heavenly oasis in the heart of Edinburgh

Edinburgh is teeming with tourists, theatre-goers, day-trippers and locals enjoying all that the Scottish capital has to offer.

And the streets surrounding the country’s largest theatre, The Playhouse, are always bustling.

But just a stone’s throw away is The Glasshouse, a tranquil hotel gem that offers guests the beautiful backdrop of a World Heritage Site.

In 2003, the 172-year-old Lady Glenorchy Church was converted into a five-star boutique hotel in the heart of the city.

Despite the original entrance, guests are welcomed by staff in the modern reception area (complete with the hotel’s own tartan). Here they can choose from Signature, Autograph, Calton Hill or Terraced rooms or opt for a more luxurious stay in one of the suites.

The 77 rooms feature Elemis toiletries for guests to pamper themselves with, adding an extra touch of luxury to any stay.

The rooms and suites at Calton Hill offer guests direct access to the rooftop garden with a seating area and spectacular views.

All rooms feature Wi-Fi and smart TVs, as well as complimentary tea, Nespresso coffee and a minibar, and a digital newspaper and magazine app.

For added luxury, the suites feature king-size beds and a glass of whisky that refers to the name of the suite.

The garden is a popular location for weddings. After the wedding, newlyweds can enjoy a free honeymoon at one of the hotels of parent company YTL.

To make the most of the adventure, guests can enjoy the hotel’s whisky experience with a selection of our national spirit, expertly selected from over 200 bottles, and a canapé platter in the hotel’s Snug Bar as part of their stay. Breakfast the following morning is also included.

If you want to find out more, the Johnnie Walker Experience is just a short walk away on Princes Street, where you can take a taste tour and get the chance to visit the 1820s rooftop bar for unrivalled views of Edinburgh Castle.

In addition to whisky, The Glasshouse has teamed up with The Botanist gin this summer to create a chilled-out rooftop bar, making the hotel a luxurious base from which to enjoy all that Edinburgh has to offer, from cheap eats to Michelin-starred restaurants, swanky theatre shows and basement comedy clubs.

Visit Edinburgh Castle and the surrounding tourist attractions or take a refreshing stroll to Arthur’s Seat before returning to the tranquility of The Glasshouse and its friendly staff.
