The Holiday film breaks down when Jude Law reveals the truth about the iconic cottage

‘Tis the season to put up your Christmas tree, eat mince pies… and watch Jude Law in The Holiday.

However, if you’ve ever dreamed of renting the fairytale cottage of Iris (played by Kate Winslet), be prepared to have your hopes dashed by Jude herself.

The British actor, 51, appeared on BBC Radio Two to talk to presenter Zoe Ball about the hit festive film.

Although the film is often watched year after year in many households, it has lost none of its luster for Jude.

He said: “I think it’s just glorious.”

Guest star Kerry Godliman asked, “Can you put that house on Airbnb?” calls it her ‘dream home’.

Unfortunately, Jude quickly ruined her holiday fantasies.

He revealed: “That house doesn’t exist. Oh yes.

“So the director, she’s a bit of a perfectionist, toured the whole area and didn’t quite find the chocolate house she was looking for.

“So she just rented a field, drew it and had someone build it.

“But here’s the funny thing, when you look at it. So we were shooting here in the winter.

“And every time I walk through that door, we cut and shoot the interiors in LA, about three months later.”

Kerry was shocked and said, “No, please stop!”

Zoe was equally distraught, adding: ‘We don’t want to hear it anymore. We cannot bear it.”

Kerry agreed: “That’s very disturbing.”

Jude smiled as he said, “All you have to do is burst the bubble, sorry.”

Although a number of filming locations in the English countryside were created for the film, several actually exist in Surrey and Oxfordshire and you can visit them in real life.

During one of their dates, Amanda and Graham visit Cornwell Manor, a huge estate in Chipping Norton.

You cannot visit it because it is not open to the public, but you can rent the location for weddings and parties.

The hit festive film features a stellar cast including Cameron Diaz, Jude, Kate and Jack Black, and is a huge party favorite at this time of year.

Plot gap?

It follows the story of a house swap between Brit Iris and Amanda from LA before Christmas, with both finding love in each other’s world.

But fans of The Holiday are starting to speak out after being surprised by one storyline in the film.

Jude’s character Graham is a widower in the film after the death of his wife.

It later turns out that he has two young daughters, named Sophie and Olivia, whom he is raising on his own.

But throughout the film, as he begins to fall for Cameron Diaz’s character Amanda, Graham’s daughters keep disappearing.

Graham first meets American film director Amanda during a drunken walk home from the pub.

He knocks on the door of his sister Iris’s house and finds Amanda there after a house exchange. Graham then decides to spend the night.

Later in the film, Graham arranges to meet Amanda at the pub in the evening and later even declares that he’s ‘having the girls on New Year’s Eve’.

Is Cameron Diaz’s character’s house really from The Holiday?

AMANDA Wood’s Tuscan-style mansion was actually a real house in San Marino, California.

The house, built in 1928 by architect Wallace Neff and located at 1883 Orlando Road, is a Californian mansion with Mediterranean influences.

However, the interior scenes were actually filmed at Sony Pictures Studios.

But a fan asked on Would she like it differently, Jude?”

Perhaps Graham’s parents are extremely helpful when it comes to childcare.

There was talk of the cast reuniting to film a sequel, but these rumors were quashed two years ago.

Original writer-director Nancy Meyers took to Instagram and said, “There are so many DMs about this – sorry but it’s not true.”
