The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is finally coming to Steam and Xbox Series S/X later this month. The survival-crafting game set in JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth is coming to new platforms on August 27, publisher North Beach Games announced Wednesday. In addition to launching on Steam and next-gen Xbox consoles, the game will receive The Golden Update, which brings cross-platform cross-play support, new game content, bug fixes and improvements, and more.

North Beach Games made the announcement in a blog post Wednesday, detailing features of The Golden Update. The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is now available to wishlist on the Steam and Xbox Store.
The publisher also announced that the game will be available for a reduced price of $19.99 for a limited time (regional pricing for India has not yet been announced) when it launches on new platforms on August 27.
The Golden Update
Headlining the Golden Update is a new Sandbox Mode that allows players to freely explore Moria. The mode is non-linear and uses procedural generation to create diverse game worlds with unique layouts and challenges for every playthrough. Previously only available in beta on the Epic Games Store version of the game, Sandbox Mode is now launching on all platforms as part of the Golden Update.
The update also brings cross-platform cross-play support. Players on PC (both Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series S/X will be able to host games and invite other players to join the session. Additionally, The Golden Update also adds 14 new weapons and armor, and over 100 new buildables.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria also receives a number of quality of life improvements, including crafting improvements, the ability to pause the game in offline single-player, an ambient music soundtrack, advanced difficulty settings, and various bug fixes.
Developed by Free Range Games, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria was available exclusively on the Epic Games Store on PC when it launched on October 24 of last year. On December 5, the game also released on PS5.
