A major Australian hospital has revealed that ‘Isla’ and ‘Oliver’ were the two most popular baby names of 2021.

According to the record holders of WA’s St John of God, both names managed to hold on to the stopping point – after rising to the position in 2020.

The hospital looked at data from more than 10,000 births in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia to come up with a list of ten boy and girl names deemed most loved.

This is the second year in a row that both names have taken the top spot, but other names have certainly made huge leaps to the top of the list.

Oscar seems to be the second-favorite boys name of the past year – up four places in 2020.

While Archie came in at number five – after missing the top ten the year before.

Luca also made his first appearance alongside the three equal-tenth placeholders, Max, Thomas and George.

There seemed to be less movement in the girls list with Isla clinging to first, Olivia still second and Charlotte still a year behind in third.

However, the fourth name on the list, Amelia, is new, as is Willow in sixth place, Sophie in seventh and Evelyn in tenth.

The most popular names in 2021 may have held steady, but it also seemed to be a year that saw a lot of edgy baby names pop up as well.

Names like Atlas, Bexley, Bowie, and Maverick grew in popularity, with people becoming more open to same-sex names and “taking risks.”
