Lee Carsley believes that the conveyor belt of England of young players now produces groups of winners who are determined to dominate at every age group.

Former England -Wing player Theo Walcott Wondered how serious England took international football compared to other countries.

But Carsley, who spoke prior to the second euro group match under 21 against Slovenia on Sunday, believes that this current generation is cut from a different canvas.

“I think that is definitely a generation,” he said when referring to the German Under-21 team that won the euros in 2009 before he won the World Cup five years later.

‘Years ago that German team went, they went on to the senior team and then did well and it was the same with Spain.

“Hopefully the 21s of the last campaign can be such teams.”

He continued: ‘Winning one tournament is great, but it is the dominant bit that we want to get better at.

“There is a big difference between hope and faith. I feel that we are producing a generation of English players who believe they can win and that they can really do well in these tournaments.

“But it starts with those building blocks to ensure that we first and foremost we are eligible from the group and then try to build on it.”

On the men’s side, England is involved in large races at the age of 17, under 19 and under 21 this summer and they all have strong prospects in all three.

After having won the euros two years ago for the first time in 39 years, much of the focus is on back-to-back with a team that contains only two faces from the 2023 group.

But for Carsley there is no divine right that England should win because they are England.

‘I think we won it in 1982 from the point of view of the point of view, won it in 1984, have never won it before.

‘Won again in 2023 and so I don’t think we should ever have an expectation of: “Oh, England Should that win “because our past would prove that we did not do that.

‘I absolutely feel that this generation of players, and not only this group, but in terms of the 17s and 19s who are all involved in major competitions this summer, I have spoken about it earlier, the level of the player who comes through, is definitely a conveyor belt of players who are not happy to be here.

“I definitely feel in their minds that they have come here to win.”
