The North East has the most popular women Nick Knowles, not ‘munters’ – how ignorant
WHO the hell does Nick Knowles think he is?
I know I’m not the only woman in the North East who is outraged by claims that he made rude and offensive comments and, although he may be smiling from ear to ear as he waltzed across the floor at Come dance strictly, women in the north hunt him.
‘Munters’ – that’s what he is said to have called women in the North East while filming the BBC show DIY SOS: the big construction in North Shields.
A charity worker who met Nick claims he told her she was the “first pretty woman he had seen”.
What a charmer, if that’s the language he uses, it’s horrible and he should take a long, hard look in the mirror.
I’m not a munter, and neither are the rest of the women in the region – and yet Nick has tarred us all with the same insulting, misogynistic brush.
He is a hugely recognizable celebrity and currently appears on one of the biggest TV shows in the country. It’s essentially a popularity contest, but Nick has managed to alienate an entire region of Britain with his thoughtless and offensive comments.
I’m hardly the only woman in the North East who is baffled by the comments Nick made.
“Urgh. Filthy pig.” hit one on social media, and “this doesn’t surprise me.”
It is inexcusable to reverse Northeastern hospitality and hurl insults at us instead.

Nick’s ignorant comments suggest his head isn’t stuck at all.
My ‘patch’ is teeming with hot women like Cheryl, Donna Air, Amber Gill and Vicky Pattison who are all from Newcastle.
Little Mix stars Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall are girls from the South Shields, while Jayne Middlemiss, whose modeling looks catapulted her to stardom, has roots in Northumberland.
Little star Helen Skelton was born in Cumbria and beyond Blue Pete now has tons of TV work covering sports, live TV and BBC base Country file.
We even bred a Miss United Kingdom-North Shields born Madeleine Stringer, who was crowned in 1977.
Girls Aloud singer Cheryl’s stunning bone structure and gorgeous hair saw companies like L’Oreal snap her up for advertising deals. And I’m sure Nick would have clocked the number of times she topped FHM’s Sexiest Woman of the Year poll.
Meanwhile, Donna worked as a model and actress – most recently on the West End stage 2:22 A ghost story. And Vicky has just shown off her glamorous wedding on a special TV programme.
I’m 41 and happily married, but in my younger days I would scrub up to go out with my friends and we would turn heads and get a lot of male attention.
Every woman can suffer from a lack of self-esteem at times, but in a glamorous outfit, comfortable but chunky heels and my made-up face, I know I look my best and have the confidence to go out and have fun.
But men who make cruel comments like Nick’s have the power to derail a woman’s confidence in a flash that simply isn’t on.
Women from these parts take pride in dressing up and dressing up glamorous. Time is spent styling the hair, applying color and applying make-up perfectly. They are often nights out in the North East where newspapers feature beautiful young women dressed to the nines on their pages.
Part of what I love most about living in the region is the friendliness of the locals. People like to chat, help and are generally very hospitable to everyone who comes to visit. So it is inexcusable to change the hospitality of the North East and instead hurl insults at us.
DIY SOS: the big construction is all about helping others and acts of charity, so it’s disturbing that Nick reportedly made such dismissive and derogatory comments behind the scenes.
He said he has encountered hundreds of people in the course of his work and that he cannot be expected to remember what he has said to everyone he has met.
Either way, something tells me Nick won’t get a warm welcome the next time he visits these parts.
His comments were completely inappropriate and, as it turns out, quite stupid now that he needs our support to stay on TV, especially since women make up a large part of the population. Come dance strictly fanbase.
I’m pretty sure the women of ‘The Toon’ won’t cast their cast Strictly votes in Nick’s direction on Saturday evening.
He has landed firmly in our bad books.
