Joey King is not your typical fairytale queen in her latest project.
The 22-year-old actress makes it clear that she wants to play by her own rules, as she was seen on Thursday in the trailer for the Hulu action fantasy The Princess, which opens on July 1.
The first look is designed to get fans hooked on the struggle for freedom versus oppression in the broken fable that focuses on girl power.

The quick preview shows the dutiful daughter walking on her father’s arm down the aisle in a crowded cathedral, but when it comes time to say “I do,” she declines, becoming a runaway bride, declaring, “I’m not a piece of property to trade’, and then the fun begins.
Her future husband, played by Dominic Cooper, 44, is described as a “cruel sociopath.”
He wants to take the throne and is relentless in his pursuit of her royal highness as his key to the kingdom. When she won’t submit, the tyrant locks his unwilling bride in a rogue-style tower.
The Los Angeles native appeared to have had some serious martial arts training before stepping in front of the camera.

Action: Instead of submitting, we see the damsel kicking, hitting and using chains to send a series of would-be kidnappers, while proclaiming in a genteel British accent, ‘These guys [bleeped] with the wrong princess.’

Excited: Joey shared the trailer, which came out on June 2, on social media, posting: ‘I just can’t wait for you all to see this movie, I’m so proud of it (sic)’
As Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation plays, we see the 5ft3in firecracker kicking, hitting and using chains to send a series of would-be kidnappers, exclaiming in a genteel British accent, ‘These guys [bleeped] with the wrong princess.’
Old guard actress Veronica Ngo joins the fray as an ally in the fight for freedom, but Black Widow cast member Olga Kurlenko seems to be teaming up with the bad guys.
The excited headliner shared the teaser on Instagram, writing: “The Princess trailer is finally here. Coming on Hulu on July 1. Oh I just can’t wait for you all to see this movie, I’m so proud of it (sic).
