The Queen’s Royal wives’ support team attended the Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s today, showing their unwavering loyalty to Her Majesty, who was unable to attend the event due to mobility issues.

Among her leading ladies were Zara Tindall, 41, and Princesses Beatrice, 33, and Eugenie, 32, the Queen’s older granddaughters.

While none of them perform official royal duties, they are key figures at major royal events such as today’s service and are unwavering in their support of the Queen.

Princess Eugenie attended the V&A this week to visit Queen’s Jubilee Emblem Display and asked social media followers to submit photos of their anniversary celebrations, which she shared on her Instagram Stories.

And yesterday Zara’s husband Mike took to Instagram to share a photo of the couple supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity GOSH, whose queen is patroness, and artist Carne Griffiths at the release of his portrait ‘The Platinum Queen’. before going to Buckingham Palace for the Trooping The Color ceremony.

The support team represented the monarch, who revealed last night that she would be “reluctantly” to withdraw from today’s service after experiencing “discomfort” during yesterday’s Trooping The Color events.

According to a statement from Palace, the 96-year-old “enjoyed her birthday parade and flypast a lot” but “did experience some discomfort”.

It read: ‘Considering the travel and activity required to attend tomorrow’s National Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty has regretfully concluded that she will not be attending.’

In addition, Prince Andrew was not at the event after he announced yesterday that he had tested positive for Covid.

However, other senior royals took part, most notably Prince Charles, who replaced his mother, as well as the Duchess of Cornwall, the Dukes and Duchess of Cambridge and the Sussexes.

Today’s service also marked Harry and Meghan’s first appearance at The Firm since the icy Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey in March 2020, shortly before officially stepping down as senior royal.

The pair were spotted watching Trooping the Color yesterday, but they made a concerted effort not to be seen by prying eyes, arriving at Horse Guards Parade incognito and diligently keeping clear of most – though not all – waiting photographers.

Today’s thanksgiving service also included approximately 400 members of the public, including key figures, charities volunteers and members of the armed forces, who were invited to the service in recognition of their contribution to public life.

The Bishop of London said earlier today that she is “enthusiastic” for the thanksgiving service. Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally, who will lead the blessing at St Paul’s, told BBC Breakfast: ‘I’m excited I guess.’

She added that she was nervous about the ceremonial regalia she has to wear. “It’s a jacket called the George V jacket. It’s a pretty old coat, a cape, and it’s on me, but it’s designed for men, of course, because I’m the first woman to happen to be the Bishop of London,’ she said. “So he doesn’t sit very well with me, so I’m a little nervous.”

She said Her Majesty’s Christian faith “has always shaped her” and that she feels privileged to play a part in the service and “thank the Queen” for her service to the country.

This morning, ahead of the service, royal fans began to gather in London hoping to catch a glimpse of the family.
