The Stylish Style of Top You Need for Your Wardrobe, According to Fashion Pros

Whether you’re dressing up for a glamorous event, aiming for a stylish holiday look or simply looking to freshen up your wardrobe, the one-shoulder style offers a fresh twist on traditional silhouettes.

This style is borrowed from ancient Greece and Rome, but has clearly stood the test of time (literally centuries), as it is still very much in fashion today.

And while togas are now considered just a fun, party outfit, a one-shoulder toga can add a serious dose of style to your wardrobe.

It accentuates your neckline and draws attention to your décolleté, making it super flattering.

Here, the Fabulous Fashion team shows you how to style one-shoulder pieces for all occasions.

I’ve never been a fan of one-shoulder strap outfits, but there’s something incredibly chic about asymmetrical swimwear.

I love this swimsuit from M&S. It’s perfect to show off my tan at the end of my holiday.

The silver strap detail makes it look a lot more expensive than £45 and because it’s adjustable it offers great support.

I paired it with neutral accessories to complete the look.

Pair it with this beautiful rattan hat for the pool bar or with platform soles for a day at the beach.

I only recently started carrying on one shoulder after years of being insecure about my arms.

But after wearing an asymmetrical dress to a wedding a few months ago and getting tons of compliments, I realized no one was looking at my arms.

I’m still obsessed with leopard print and I don’t think that will change anytime soon.

This dress from Mango is perfect for an occasion such as a date night or a night out with friends.

Pair this with a red bag for a pop of color, a nice pair of heels, and gold jewelry. This is a stylish look that you can wear all year round.

I instantly fell in love with this one-shoulder white dress from Next’s premium collection – and it’s still under £60,

I love the flattering pleats around the waist, the little cutout at the back, the bow – and of course the eye-catching detail on one shoulder.

To add some color, I would pair it with bright orange accessories, like these Mango flip-flops and this Chanel-inspired bag that you can wear as a shoulder bag or crossbody.

Also, I think with one shoulder you need something to fill in the missing sleeve, like big, statement earrings or, in my case, statement gold bracelets.

For holidays abroad, in the UK or even a day in the city, I wear this all summer long.

Have you heard of the fashion method ‘My Three Style Words’?

The theory goes that if you can name three words that sum up your style, it becomes easier to choose clothes that suit you as a person. You can get dressed faster and easier in the morning and you end up with a great wardrobe.

One of my words is ‘Greek’.

There’s something special about the drape of a one-shoulder dress or the edge that a one-shoulder top gives to a pantsuit that I love.

Greek is the opposite of girly; it feels tough yet feminine.

I paired this light blue one-shoulder top with some cool trousers, a touch of dark red and a statement earring, which draws all the attention to this fantastic neckline.

Perfect for a summer party!
