The T1 telephone of Trump Mobile is not really made in America, and maybe this teaches him why it is impossible to make the iPhone in America

Shocker. The Trump Mobile T1 telephone is not ‘made in the US.’ We know this because the mobile website of Trump has quietly changed the T1 language and now claims that the phone will be “American pride”.
It is an interesting sense of sense, and one reminiscent of how Apple describes the creation of his popular iPhone. On the package (it used to be on the devices), it says ‘designed by Apple in California’. Everyone knows that the products are largely assembled elsewhere, often in China, but increasingly in India and Vietnam.
For months, US President Donald Trump has put pressure on Apple CEO Tim Cook To build his iPhone in America. Cook has offered some plans to help shift the balance, so that part of the work, perhaps some chip development, possibly some Apple Intelligence hosting, can happen in the US, but That has never been enough for Trump.
But now, maybe, maybe, Trump will change his song. Although the president is not directly involved with Trump Mobile or the T1 telephone (it is a family business from Trump), it has all ear tags of a creation of Donald Trump, including the flashy gold finish and that somewhat strange design (Why is it so long?). The claim ‘Made in the US’ was no coincidence; That is the whole brand of Trump.
The new word smiths on the mobile Trump site is nothing if not entertaining:
“The T1 telephone is not only powerful – it has been brought to life here in the US. With American hands behind every device, we bring care, precision and familiar quality into every detail.”
Is that “American hands” collected the money on pre-orders? I doubt it means that someone puts together the phone in the US. Perhaps there is an American designer who has looked at all existing Android 15 -Smartphones and selected his favorite pieces (I give them the honor for recording the 3.5 mm headphone connection).
‘Made for America’, more like it
However, Trump Mobile is confronted with the harsh truth Of the 21st-century consumer electronics: almost nothing is built in the US, and almost all the components needed to make the phone are made up outside the continuous United States.
When We reported a few weeks agoCompliance with the claim ‘Made in the US’ was at best a challenge:
“First,” Made in the USA “has a high bar. Professor Tinglong Dai, who teaches at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, told us:” The FTC [Federal Trade Commission] Has a strict standard for “Made in USA”: all or almost all parts and processing must be domestic. Based on that standard, the claim is unrealistic. “
Will Trump finally admit to cook that: “Yes, maybe it is not reasonable to require you to build your iPhone here in America, while I can’t even build my own name of the name brand here in the US.”
The phone of $ 499 has been on the pre -order for less than two weeks, but I wonder if someone who has been sold on the idea of a modern ‘Made in the USA’ -Handset for the refund of $ 100 has requested.
Will more people wait now for the telephone “later this year” to be shipped and to appear the first reviews before they buy? That assumes that Trump offers the phone for assessment. For American tech media this means that Trump Mobile has to find out how he can first get the phone to the US.
