A daily report of postal ballots received is provided to all candidates. The INDIA bloc, comprising JMM, Congress and RJD, claimed that the higher turnout of women showed the popularity of the Hemant Soren government’s welfare schemes, especially Maiyya Samman Yojana, under which Rs 1,000 per month is given to women beneficiaries .
BJP, on the other hand, said the high turnout showed women’s disillusionment with Soren’s government. “They voted in large numbers because they are fed up with over 7,000 cases of crimes against women in the last five years. They voted in large numbers because the BJP promised Rs 2,100 under Gogo Didi Yojana,” said BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo.
Of the 43 constituencies (AC) that voted on November 13, 37 recorded a higher turnout for women than for men. Only six ACs – Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East, Seraikela, Tamar and Khunti – recorded a higher election percentage among men, although the gender gap in four of these six ACs was less than one percentage point.
