Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov refused to shake Kate Scott’s hand during a Champions League TV segment because of his faith.

The football world converged on Saturday evening in Germany when the Allianz Arena organized the 2025 Champions League -final between PSG And Inter Milan.

CBS Sports has dealt with the promotion with their regular Punditry trio of Thierry HenryJamie Carragher And Micah Richards and presenter Scott.

After the crushing 5-0 victory of Les Parisiens, the group on the pitch side was accompanied by popular streamer Ishowspeed and the UFC icon.

While the undefeated former hunter made his way to his group, he embraced each member separately before brought off a handshake from Scott when her hand remained awkward.

Nurmagomedov then seemed to clarify his refusal to the presenter – formerly known as Kate Abdo prior to her marriage to Boktrainer Malik Scott last year – who then apologized in the air.

Born in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, De Jager is a pious Sunni Muslim and is described as the second most famous athlete of faith in the world, after Liverpool Talisman Mohamed Salah.

In Islam it is forbidden for a believer to touch a member of the opposite sex to which they are not related.

The incident comes after a colleague UFC hunter and female teammate of Nurmagomedov’s in 2020 revealed that he would not train directly with her.

“It’s a bit strange because of their religion … they won’t train with women,” Cynthia Calvillo told Thescore.

‘(Khabib) still shows technology and things like that. So I can still view it. But it doesn’t bother me … because they are not really rude against me immediately. ‘

The refusal of Nurmagomedov led to a mixed reaction to social media, with some fans insisting that he had not wanted to insult Scott.

“Khabib respectively Kate Abdo’s handshake #respect,” wrote an X user.

‘Nice! Very respectful from Khabib. I like this, “added another fan.

“I hope she understood that it is a sign of respect in our religion and not marginalization,” said a fan.

However, others were less impressed and suggested that Nurmagomedov had not demonstrated the same respect for Scott as her male colleagues.

“That didn’t seem to be respectful. Forget physical handshake, he even ignored her and greeted her and did not even recognize her until she put her hands out, “wrote a fan.

Despite the initial clumsiness about the handshake, Nurmagomedov quickly settled about his beloved PSG after their dominant victory.

It was the first European Cup triumph of the French side and Nurmagomedov and colleague UFC star Islam Makhachev were there to see it personally.
