The research, conducted by online retailer Northernerfinds out which Secret Santa gifts people really hate receiving,
And since Secret Santa gift giving is at an all-time high, this information may be helpful as you prepare your shopping list.
With festive tunes already on the radio and Christmas markets packed with people, now is the time to tighten up your shopping.
And while your little ones describe exactly what they want in a letter to Santa, your coworkers or extended group of friends aren’t so forward-thinking.

As Brits find their wallets increasingly strained, Secret Santa-style gift exchanges are becoming increasingly popular.
Research has shown that socks are the most hated Secret Santa gift of all time.
According to Northerner, a whopping 81% of Brits admit that receiving a pair of socks is a disappointment.
A total of 85% of respondents agreed that new socks are even worse.
A big trend in gifting this year is ‘useful gifts’, so while a pair of socks might tick that box, the crowd has spoken: don’t buy socks for your Secret Santa.
Other seemingly useful gifts were also rated poorly by respondents, with items such as shower gel receiving 76% of the votes.
Mugs also proved unpopular with 68% and beer drove them away with 69% of the votes.
Stationery, key chains and cigarettes also make the top 10 list.
Inappropriate gifts also left a bad taste in the British mouth, with drinking games, naughty calendars and penis-shaped chocolates also receiving poor ratings from respondents.

Although the Secret Santa tradition has become popular among colleagues, this survey found that 41% of working Brits would like to see the routine banned from the workplace.
On the other hand, 63% agreed that a Secret Santa system works well for friendship groups and large families.
Saving money was reported as the biggest benefit, with 71% of people agreeing.
“Gift giving can be very stressful, especially if you receive a Secret Santa that you don’t know very well,” says Markus Lindblad from Northerner.
“It’s interesting to see that some of the most given gifts are actually the most hated by Brits – perhaps creativity is the secret to a good gift.
“Hopefully this list is useful to those looking for inspiration and if you’re thinking about buying cigarettes or beer for someone, maybe think twice about it this year.
“Look at some more interesting and healthier alternatives, such as nicotine replacement products or non-alcoholic drinks.”
