The WORST Things You See in a Date’s House and How to Avoid Driving Your Partner Away
IT’S not easy to navigate the dating world. All sorts of things can go wrong, from dating apps and relationship problems to failed first dates.
But sometimes a first date goes so well that you just walk into your partner’s home.
And it can be a revealing moment that either pleasantly surprises you, or makes you run away.
It’s normal to be nervous when you first go to your date’s house, but many singles are often overwhelmed by what they find there.
Experts have revealed some of the worst things they’ve seen in someone’s home while dating, in a bid to stop people scaring their partners off.
In a recent survey, Wayfair teams asked singles in the UK about their worst experiences of dating at home. The results will surprise you.
Experts were shocked to discover that many of them immediately dropped out when they found out their dates were collecting trash and had too much stuff in their homes.
Others had to flee when they saw holes in unrepaired drywall or baby wallpaper in an adult’s bedroom.
One of the most common annoyances among singles is the state of cleanliness they find in other people’s homes

Dirty bathrooms and dirty carpets were also at the top of the list. People who were scared when they saw a mattress on the floor or fake grass on the stairs were also put off.
Having a python as a pet also sends shivers down the spine of many single people, as do net curtains, dead insects on the floor, and surfaces and body parts in formaldehyde.
And it’s also bad news if you have no sheets on your bed, old furniture, a worn-out couch, an ugly kitchen or dirty dishes in the sink.
Women were not impressed by staying in houses where every room was decorated with football memorabilia, and men were not impressed by rooms with ‘Live laugh love’ stickers or butterfly decals on the walls.
But everyone agreed that sticky wallpaper, dirty towels, old trays lying around and cigarette ash and smoke throughout the house are absolutely off-limits.
Luckily, experts have shared their best tips on how to clean your home so your date doesn’t run away.
Daniela Venturini, Art Director and Trend Forecaster of Giveawaysaid: “Inviting someone over to your home for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience as you want to make sure you come across well to your future partner.”
The first thing you need to remember is to always keep your home clean and tidy before your date arrives.
She said: “One of the biggest pet peeves among singles is the level of cleanliness in other people’s homes.
“From dirty sheets to dirty plates and leftover takeout, it’s a good idea to thoroughly clean and tidy your space before inviting anyone over.
“Not only does it give a better impression, but it also shows that you take pride in the way you live and take care of yourself.”
What you may not think about is paying attention to the colors in your home.
Daniela explains: “Bright and clashing colours can be off-putting if used incorrectly. However, you can still make bold splashes of colour by combining different shades to create a vibrant and dynamic palette.

While some singles complain about the questionable decor, Daniela says she always encourages people to embrace their uniqueness and let their personality shine through in their homes.
Questionable decorations or personal items can cause the most disgust and confusion among house guests
Daniela Venturini
She added: “As you can see, it is the questionable decorations or personal items that can cause the most disgust and confusion among guests of the house.
But you should always embrace your unique decorating choices with confidence and realize that they reflect your individuality.
“If you have particularly unconventional items, it is important to be aware of yourself and ask yourself if these pieces really speak to you.
“If so, there is no need to hide them, even though some may find them unusual.
“Instead, display them proudly as part of what makes your space authentically you.
“A future partner who truly values you will appreciate this self-expression.”
