These are our fashion pros’ top picks from the summer sale
BELIEVE it or not, despite the awful weather this week (it hardly feels like the first week of July), the summer sales have begun.
For many, the idea of having to rummage through cluttered shelves marked with flashy red sale signs is far from pleasant.
And the sheer number of items available online can be quite overwhelming.
If you’re scrolling endlessly through the sale section and need some advice on which items are actually worth buying, read on.
Our fashion team has done the hard work for you and selected the best bargains that you should definitely check out.

I love bargain shopping and could easily spend an entire afternoon browsing through the Net-a-Porter sale, filling my fashion fantasy basket with gorgeous designer pieces!
But in reality, I still can’t afford them, so I mainly shop during the sales and occasionally buy something from The Outnet, Net-A-Porter’s outlet site.
My first tip when shopping during sales is to only buy items that you know you will wear for years to come.
A dress made of aluminum foil might seem like a good idea since it’s currently 60% off, but in reality, you’ll only wear it once in blue.
I try to put hearts on items I love during the season so I get notified when prices drop.
If I still like them four months later, when the price drops, I know they’re not a one-hit wonder.
I like to buy nice cashmere, even in the summer, because knitwear is even cheaper out of season, as are swimwear, leather sandals that don’t go out of style quickly and other classic items like a well-fitting pair of trousers and a nice bag that you can take with you everywhere.
These clothes will get me through autumn with ease and I saved £333.20, so it’s a win!

Although I love a bargain, I don’t have much patience for bargains, especially in physical stores.
However, it is true that online shopping is a lot more organized, because there is a certain order. In a physical store, on the other hand, it often looks like a flea market.
I’ve been using this season’s sales to look at brands that I wouldn’t always buy because of the price.
For example, I love Kitri and have been obsessed with this quilted jacket for a while now, so I was really happy to see it on sale.
The same goes for & Other Stories: I love graphic t-shirts and this one is no exception.
Zara always has great sales and these trousers are a bargain at just £12.99.
Sneakers, especially from well-known brands, can be hard to find in the sales, so I was delighted to see these New Balance shoes on sale for over £30 off.
And I think this Mango raffia bag is so cute!

Selling is a serious business for me, I always start with a plan.
The plan is to buy more expensive clothes that I can use next season.
Summer vacation is over and the current weather doesn’t make me go for linen right away. Instead, I turn my attention to leather, wool and cashmere.
I’m in love with this big, comfy coat from Arket and for £169 I would never have bought it, but at £85 it would be rude not to.
I’ve been meaning to get rid of my cream boots for a few years but never dared to. But I love this pair from Jigsaw and as I’m saving over £100 it just makes sense to use ‘girls maths’.
I also usually buy knitwear in the summer sales, because the prices are always high the rest of the year and you can usually find a wide range of sizes.

For me, working in the fashion department every day means that I am constantly discovering new pieces that I like, but can’t always afford.
Since I have limited space in my wardrobe at home, I try to choose timeless pieces that I wear more often. That’s why I usually wait patiently for the sales before buying anything new.
A good tip from me is to buy your winter coat or jacket now. I need a new trench coat and this one from Zara is a bit thicker, so I can still use it for a long time in the cold season.
If you love leopard print, you know Ganni does it best. Although it’s a trendy print this summer, leopard print never really goes out of style.
Normally Ganni dresses are too expensive for me, but this one has been on my wishlist for a while, so this time I’m treating myself.
I’ve also been obsessed with this striped bag since it launched last month. I think it’s going to sell out fast, so be quick.
