‘They are dying in Tihar’: Engineer Rashid on Abdullah, Mufti’s ‘BJP proxy’ remark | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid mentioned Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti’s comment calling him a “BJP proxy“disgraceful,” adding that if that had been the case, “I would be in jail.”
Calling himself a “victim” of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sheikh Abdul Rashid said on Thursday: “I am dying all the time. Tihar Jail the last 5.5 years. I have been a victim of the BJP. I don’t want to talk about the oppression, let them have some mercy.”

Mehbooba Mufti criticised the BJP for calling Rashid a proxy of the BJP: “I want to ask the government that if you have again become a proxy party, Engineer Rashid’s party, when all your other proxy parties have failed, you have brought out Engineer Rashid’s party and you are fully supporting them with money and everything, then tell us clearly that other parties need not contest the elections,” she said.
Responding to her allegations, Rashid said, “If she (Mehbooba Mufti) says that the BJP has given me money, then she knows how this financial system works and she has received the money.”
The Lok Sabha MP, who defeated Omar Abdullah in the recent general elections, added: “When Omar Abdullah said that Engineer Rashid was innocent and that he was a victim of Sajjad Lone, he is now saying that he is a proxy of the BJP. Shame on you! If I was a proxy of the BJP, why would I be in jail?”
Rashid has been granted interim bail in a terror financing case to campaign in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. He was arrested by the NIA in 2019 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the 2017 terror financing case.
