They would have been in jail if we had 20 more seats, Kharge attacks govt | India News – Times of India
ONE NIGHT: Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday attacked the BJP and the Modi government, saying these people would have been jailed if the Indian bloc formed a government.
“They (BJP) used to say ‘400 pairs’; where are your 400 seats? They stopped at 240. If we had had 20 more seats, all these people would have gone to jail,” he told a rally in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag, where he announced five guarantees if the Congress-National Conference alliance forms a government in the UT.
Kharge’s five guarantees are: interest-free loans of Rs 500,000 for women entrepreneurs, Rs 3,000 per month for women householders, Rs 25 lakh health insurance for each household, 11 kg of PDS granules per person and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.
He accused the government of not bringing manufacturing units in the region. “One lakh government posts are vacant. These people (BJP) want to keep you poor. If we come to power, we will fill up those vacant posts. We will reopen more than 4,400 government schools that have been closed for the past few years,” Kharge said.
Congress leader vowed to work towards restoration of J&K statehood and its bicameral legislature. “They (BJP) keep asking how we will do it? If people are with us, we will do it because it is people power,” he said.
