This could be the date when Google launches Android 16 – and here’s what’s going to happen
- An earlier launch for Android 16 was previously confirmed
- Now we may have an exact date: June 3
- The operating system will be ready for the Pixel 10 well in time
We’ve recently heard rumors that Android 16 will arrive sooner in 2025 than we expected – and now a new leak goes further, giving an exact date when Android 16 will launch.
This comes from sources that are spoken to Android Headsand the date in question is June 3, 2025 (a Tuesday). This is in line with what was previously rumored about the operating system that would debut in the second quarter of 2025 (April to June).
As you may have noticed, the rollout of Android 15 has been a bit disjointed. After a preview in May, the core codebase was finalized in September, but didn’t appear on Pixel phones until mid-October.
That meant the Google Pixel 9 series originally launched in August with Android 14 on board. In theory, if we push Android 16 further this year, it should be completely ready and bug-free by the time the Pixel 10 arrives.
What we know so far
June is still more than seven months away, but we already have an idea of what Android 16 will bring – mainly through code snippets in development found hidden within Android.
We expect an upgrade to the Do Not Disturb functionality, which will give you additional control over how you can and cannot be disturbed. Floating bubbles can also be used more widely for on-screen notifications.
Another rumor points to easier access to Android’s highest level of security through the Quick Settings panel. There’s also talk that Android 16 could also change the way you access Quick Settings.
Additionally, we could see Android 16 mimic the iPhone’s Dynamic Island for continuous notifications, at least to some extent. Of course, there’s no guarantee that all of these development ideas will make it to Android 16 – we’ll have to wait and see.
