- Chatgpt’s deep research function can now export reports as PDFS
- The PDFs are supplied complete with tables, images and quotes
- This update makes it easier to archive, share and even re -use Chatgpt’s research in other tools
I spent a lot of it Experiment With the deep research function of chatgpt, and I produced All types of strange (although extensive) reports. However, there has always been a remarkable gap in his functionality so far. Openi has expanded the deep investigation function with the possibility to export your reports as fully prepared PDFs. No more chatgpt -left or screenshots that are needed to share what I have learned about the Lake George Monster.
It is a small interface -upgrade, but one that feels like it should have been built in deep research from the start. Here is how it works. You make your deep investigation report or get one of a while ago and then click on the Icons for Shares at the top of the page. You will see that the usual button ‘Share Link’ now has a corresponding button ‘Download as PDF’. One click and your report is a fully formed, citatier -rich PDF in your download folder.
This export option is currently not universally available. You need a subscription to Chatgpt Plus, Team or Pro. Users of companies and education do not yet have it, but OpenAi said it will come soon. That is good, because students and professionals belong to those I would bet that it would use the most deep research.
Deep pdf
You can now export your deep investigation reports as well-formatted PDFs-complete with tables, images, linked quotes and sources. Just click on the Share icon and select ‘Download as PDF’. It works for both new and earlier reports. pic.twitter.com/kecir4teneMay 12, 2025
With downloadable PDFs you can finally do all the things you would expect with your research. This may mean that it is placed with other research projects, sharing with teammates, or just attach it to an e -mail as part of a bet you will win.
So yes, this is just a PDF button. But it is a PDF button that used to be one of the more frustrating aspects of chatgpt. Now, with downloadable PDFs, you can finally do all the things you would expect with your research: archive, share it with teammates, add it to an e -mail, or even – this is my new favorite – upload it to another AI.
Yes, really. With the PDF in hand, I put it in Gemini’s Notebooklm, the own experimental research assistant of Google. Suddenly the AI summarized my deep research report, making flashcards and suggested related lecture. Then I tried to upload the same PDF to a podcast tool and I received an AI-generated deliverycript. Which means that chatgpt on a roundabout has just become a capacity. One that exports research and lets other tools remix in any size you need.
And that is a big problem.
Because the more AI tools we use, the more we need bridges between them. OpenAi does not have to be the app for everything, but it must be interoperable. Giving users a PDF option is a layer of hanging fruit, certainly, but it is also the type of fruit with which you can bake a whole new cake. It makes deep research portable. It gives it legs. It means that I don’t have to keep 14 tabs just to refer to a well -organized description about the history of Japanese machines.
Of course the implementation of OpenAi still has peculiarities. It is a bit confusing that the option “Download as PDF” is not in the main menu chat share. Most people assume that it is not there unless they know where to click. And for a company whose entire pitch is about reducing friction and increasing clarity, the burial of this behind a second share icon strange off-brand feels. Yet I will take “somewhat hidden but fully functional” every day “completely missing”.
What is even more important, this change indicates something else: OpenAi listens. Maybe not always fast. Maybe not always intuitive. But enough people clearly asked for this (or shouted at Reddit) that it finally happened. And in a product landscape where most updates feel like AI models that argue about who is better in summarizing Aristotle, it is refreshing to get a function that solves a real-world problem.
