This new WordPress AI tool helps you write with precision and confidence
WordPress, the leading web content management system, on Tuesday added a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool to self-hosted WordPress sites. The tool, called Write Brief with AI, was launched by WordPress’ parent company Automattic. The AI tool helps users make long sentences shorter and more readable, while also increasing trust in content. The tool is currently in beta, but is offered as part of the company’s Jetpack suite of features and is available via plugin.
In a blog postWordPress introduced the AI-powered writing tool Write Brief, internally called Breve, which is Latin for letter. The company said it saw a need for a tool that would help bloggers using the platform write clearly and accurately. The tool was built by Automattic’s Jetpack AI team.
Available as a plugin for self-hosted WordPress sites via Jetpack, the AI tool can be found on the editor page next to the publish button once added. It offers four functionalities. First, it measures the readability of content with a numerical score. Users can see what grade students find the text readable in a sidebar. The company says users should aim for a score of 8-12 for the highest readability.
Secondly, it automatically flags sentences that are too long or too descriptive. While users can review them and improve the sentences themselves, the AI also offers suggestions. Thirdly, it also offers suggestions for complex words to replace them with simpler alternatives. The company says this will help readers understand the text easily.
Finally, the AI also measures the confidence of a written text. It looks for words that sound uncertain, such as ‘possible’, ‘might’ or ‘maybe’, and offers replacements with more assertive choices. Users can also replace multiple such words with one click.
Currently the tool is available on Jetpack in beta. WordPress said that while the tool will remain in beta, it will be available for free to all its users. However, once it is made public, it could become a premium offering. The company did not specify what AI model is powering the tool.
