PATNA: Chhath Puja festivities turned into a tragedy for a family in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district as three cousins drowned while taking bath in the Ganga river as part of the first day ritual on Tuesday. Two people also drowned in separate incidents in Begusarai district. The deceased teenagers in Bhagalpur were part of a group of relatives, comprising three women and five children, who had gone to Mohanpur Ghat to take a holy dip and offer prayers on ‘nahay-khay’, the first day from Chhath. “One of the children waded deep into the water and was swept away by the strong current. The four other children came to his rescue but all of them started drowning…,” said police official Arjun Gupta.
