So whether it’s for gifts, parties or to ease the financial pressures of the holidays, an extra income around Christmas can never hurt.

David Mantle, CEO of Stashbeehas shared some smart and easy ways to make some extra money before December even arrives!

Clean up and make money

Most of us have stuff lying around that we no longer need or use. Why not clear it out and sell it online?

Not only will you appreciate the extra space, but sites like Vinted, eBay and Facebook Marketplace make it easy to turn your unwanted items into Christmas cash. This means you could easily earn up to £100 a month. That’s an extra £300 for your festive budget.

What are David’s top tips? “When it comes to selling items on platforms like Vinted, Facebook Marketplace or eBay, certain categories tend to perform better than others.

“Designer or more expensive clothing always sells well, as long as it is in good condition. And trendy fashion items from brands like Zara or Nobody’s Child will definitely fetch a few cents if you happen to have items that fashionistas love.

“Baby and children’s clothing and toys are also popular with parents looking to save some money, especially if you offer bundles of clothing or toys by age.

“School uniforms are also very popular at this time of year, but you will always have interest from parents looking to save some money after an unexpected growth spurt.”

“As the colder months approach, winter clothing such as coats, boots and knitwear will be in greater demand as people rush to warm up before the temperatures drop.

“Toys and gadgets make great gifts, so now is a great time to sell anything you’ve outgrown or no longer use as Christmas approaches.

“Electronics such as phones, tablets and games consoles are particularly good to get a good price on, especially if you can supply any cables or boxes with them.

“They also often provide a higher effort/reward ratio than selling your old wardrobe, which can take a long time without much result.

I now make $140,000 from my side hustle, just a year after losing my job. It all started with a challenge from friends.
Do you have a driveway you don't use? Or more than one space? Rent it out

“Take a Playstation for example, if you pay £400 you’ll probably get at least £200 back, whereas for a £50 shirt you might only get a tenner if it’s a good brand.”

Rent out your guest room, garage or shed for storage or parking space

One of the easiest ways to make money is by renting out unused space that you probably didn’t even know had value, like your empty driveway or garage.

With parking being expensive in many UK cities, renting out these spaces can earn you a tidy sum each month. Depending on the location, you can earn between £110 and £480 per month.

That means you could earn up to £1,440 before December.

David said, “It’s a win-win situation. You get passive income and someone else gets the convenience of secure parking or storage.”

What is David’s best tip? Screen your tenants.

“Fortunately, most rental platforms like Stashbee offer identity verification in their service so you can be sure that the person you are renting to is actually a real person!

“This process typically involves verifying the renter’s identity by asking for a government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver’s license, and their payment information.

“This saves you from having to verify their identity yourself, which can be a pain if you’re not a security expert!

Do you have a bike in your garage that you’re not using? Or extra space that you can rent out to someone who needs to store stuff?

“If you want some extra security, talk to potential tenants to get a sense of their personality, the types of items they plan to store, and how often they will need access. This can help you establish some ground rules, such as what can and cannot be stored and what the rules are for access.

“For example, it may not be a problem for them to pull into your driveway every day to get their car, but if they’ve rented your garage, shed, or spare room, they’ll need to make an appointment to come by and check out their stuff.

“I recommend that only the verified renter come to your home and that any other guests (such as people helping move their belongings) are always accompanied by you or the renter.”

Rent your equipment

Do you have a nice camera, bicycle or sports equipment that is unused in the attic or garage?

Renting out valuable items that you don’t use on a daily basis is a great way to make money with minimal effort.

For example, on websites like Fat Llama you can offer photography equipment, musical instruments and camping gear for others to rent when they need it.

Depending on what and how much stuff you rent out, you could earn between £342 and £848 a month, or up to £2,544 before Christmas.

David added: “It’s surprising how much demand there is for short-term use of these types of items. If you’ve invested in good quality equipment, why not make some of that money back?”

What is David’s best tip?Rental platforms typically offer built-in cover of up to £25,000 for theft or damage, so you can rest assured that your belongings are in safe hands.

However, make sure you read the terms and conditions carefully to understand what is covered and what conditions apply.

“Often this covers damage from improper use, so if you’re worried about someone misusing your camera, include some simple guides and tips so they have no excuse to make mistakes!”

This means you can earn a total of £5,403 to add to your party budget, without having to put in much effort!
