Throw away Congress, save ‘roti, beti & maati’: PM Modi in Jharkhand | India News – Times of India

PAKUR/DUMKA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped up his campaign Santhal Pargana for the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly Electioncalling on voters to unite and bring BJP into government if they value their “roti, beti and maati (employment, daughters and land)”.
Ahead of the November 20 elections to the remaining 38 seats in Jharkhand, Prime Minister Modi addressed election rallies in the temple town of Deoghar and in adjoining Godda district, seeking support for NDA candidates contesting 18 seats in Santhal Pargana region.
His rallies coincided with the first phase of elections, when voting took place in 43 seats in almost half of Jharkhand. Modi targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused the Congress of being against the government reservation policy and hinted that the demand for a caste-based census is aimed at dividing people and ending the reservation benefits they enjoy.
“Congress is going ahead with the dangerous plan to end reservations so that those lakhs and lakhs of people who stand together when called upon Scheduled Tribes“Scheduled Castes, or OBCs, do not remain united,” he said, noting that the Congress had been wiped out of states where the SC, ST or OBC population is dominant.
“The Congress understands very well that they can never get elected if these people remain united, so ending their reservations is important to them. But I decided to fight all these forces and remind you: Ek hain to safe hain (United you are safe). Targeting the Santhal tribes, Modi said the demographic changes in Jharkhand were severe and the number of tribes in the Santhal region had halved in the past few years.
“For electoral and personal gains, the Congress and JMM are encouraging infiltrators to settle here. If this kind of infiltration continues in Jharkhand, not only the country and its daughters will be at risk,” he said. Modi alleged that the Congress was anti-tribal and its politicians humiliated tribal leaders, citing the example of Sita Soren being abused by a Congress candidate.
