TikTok removes the three-minute limit and now lets users post videos of up to 10 minutes

TikTok is removing the three-minute video limit and will soon allow all users to upload clips of up to 10 minutes in length, the Chinese social network has confirmed.

It brought in the existing limit in July 2021, increased from 60 seconds, initially extended from the original 15 seconds.

Long thought of as a short-form video platform, the app is now maneuvering itself to rival YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook even more.

Extended video length allows TikTok users to do more flexibility in filming clips such as beauty tutorials, cooking demos and comedy sketches.

Currently, anyone making clips should encourage viewers to follow them for a “Part 2” video or longer.

HOW TIK TOK GROWN TO THE MOST POPULAR ONLINE DESTINATION

TikTok is a Chinese social media app where users can live stream, create short videos and music videos and GIFs with tons of features.

TikTok’s tagline is ‘Make every second count’.

It is known in China as Douyin where it was launched in 2016 and then became more widely available around the world in 2017.

Douyin is still the version of the app used in China, which can be downloaded separately on TikTok.

The app has been merged with the popular music video lip syncing app Musical.ly, also headquartered in China.

Most kids use the app to lip-sync themselves to score hits.

It provides users with a smooth yet colorful editing and editing tool, including overlapping music, sound, animated stickers, filters, and augmented reality (AR) for creating short videos.

The Beijing-based social network has more than 500 million active users and the company is now worth more than $75 billion (£58 billion).

Last year, TikTok was unveiled as the world’s most popular online destination, surpassing even US search engine giant Google.

The problem with this is that users often have to scroll through a creator’s feed to find the right video in a series.

“We’re always thinking of new ways to add value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a TikTok spokesperson told MailOnline.

“Last year we introduced longer videos, giving our community more time to create and be entertained on TikTok.

“Today we are excited to roll out the ability to upload videos of up to 10 minutes in length, which we hope will unleash even more creative possibilities for our creators around the world.”

Users have been notified of the update with an in-app message that reads: “Upload videos of up to 10 minutes from your device.

“Be sure to use the latest version of TikTok before trying the feature on tiktok.com in your app.”

YouTube, which brought in $28.8 billion (£21.5 billion) in ad revenue in 2021, responded to TikTok’s growth by launching its own short video rival, YouTube Shorts, in 2020, while Instagram also named its own clone. Instagram Reels released.

Snapchat offers what it calls Spotlight.

However, experts say that in general, longer-form content is “easier to monetize and keeps people on the platform longer.”

Last year, TikTok was unveiled as the world’s most popular online destination, surpassing even US search engine giant Google.

Rankings by IT security firm Cloudfare revealed that: TikTok knocked Google off the top spot in February, March and June 2021 and held the number one position from August through the end of the year.

In 2020, Google was the first to beat Amazon, TikTok, Apple, Facebook, Netflix and Microsoft, all of which were in the top 10.

The new 10-minute limit has received mixed reviews on Twitter, with many saying they would refuse to watch a 10-minute video on the platform.

One user tweeted, “I’m blocking anyone who makes a 10-minute tiktok. I can’t even pay attention to the 3 minute one.’

Another said: ‘Just make a YouTube channel. why do we need 10 minute videos on tiktok.’

And one joked, “If someone sends me a 10-minute tiktok, that person is out of my life forever.”
