Ascot bosses have dropped the famous ladies team of the Shaergar Cup – and replacing it by a team from Asia.

Chiefs said ‘Now it is time to leave’ from having a separate side for women.

Trailing Jockey Hollie Doyle said the decision was a “nice memory” that men and women compete in racing in equal terms.

The popular Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is one of the largest meetings of ASCOT and this year’s renewal will have £ 500,000 for the taking.

Doyle, who recently became the most successful female jockey of Groot -Britain, said: “The ladies team has had great success over the years, but the new changes that have been made, including integrating the male and female Jockeys in the same team, is a nice memory that we as Jockeys are completely international.”

While Nick Smith, director of Racen and Public Affairs on Ascot Racecourse, said: “We are delighted to have protected top talent from all over the world to compete in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup with at least eight different countries that are already represented.

“We think it’s time to leave a ladies-all-team, and this new evolution of the size keeps the event fresh.”
