To avoid paying £300 in Ryanair fees, holidaymakers stuff their specially made jackets with 30kg of luggage, including clothes, a kettle and a portable SOFA
A group of holidaymakers created a giant coat with extra-large pockets so they could ‘carry’ their entire 30kg luggage on a flight.
Joshua Pieters and his friend Archie Manners set themselves the goal of taking everything they needed for their trip, to avoid £300 in extra costs.
They tested their creation in June on a Ryanair flight from London Luton Airport to Portugal.
Joshua, 30, had a jacket custom-made with extra heavy-duty pockets so he could fit everything he’d normally pack in his suitcase – including a travel kettle and even a portable sofa.
Meanwhile, Archie Manners, 31, carried a portable tent so they had their ‘accommodation’ with them when they arrived.

YouTuber Joshua’s jacket contained a number of holiday essentials, including tea bags, shorts and underwear, a beach ball, a chewable toothbrush, a fork, shampoo and conditioner.
Despite a few ‘strange looks’, the footage shows the content creators miraculously making it through security, boarding the plane and happily landing in Portugal.
He did note that the jacket was too big to wear on the airplane seat and so he had to stow it in the overhead bin.
Joshua claims they saved £59.99 on baggage fees for a one-way journey, and were charged an extra £120 for the return journey because they exceeded the usual baggage weight limit.
The couple posted a full video to their shared YouTube account (Josh and Archie) and it was viewed 17,000 times in 24 hours. Joshua also shared the video on his X account (@joshua_pieters) where the film has been viewed more than 23,000 times.
In the video, the creation was dubbed the ‘Josh Coat’ and it was revealed that it was designed in Mayfair by Archie’s tailor.
The pair was also able to successfully transform Archie’s Nike ISPA ‘Metamorphic Poncho’ in its tent form on the beach. However, they were disappointed to discover that it was a ‘day tent’ – meaning that it didn’t actually have a door.

Joshua from London said: ‘It’s a question everyone always asks, like, “Can I just carry my luggage?” or “Can I just stuff my pockets with my luggage instead of paying for a suitcase?”
‘We always see flights being advertised as very cheap, but in the end we always end up spending a lot more money.
‘We wanted to investigate whether you can actually book a budget flight for the price the flight was advertised for.
“We got a lot of strange looks at the airport. We were a little nervous. When we went through security, we thought, ‘This might not work.’
The jacket was made of a “denim-like material” and was “very sturdy,” according to Joshua. He is pictured above on the beach in Portugal wearing his custom-made jacket

When they arrived, Joshua remarked: ‘We were relieved to be on holiday. It was summer and we could enjoy the beauty of Portugal’
“It was one of those things where we knew it should work because we weren’t technically breaking any rules, but it still felt like we were doing something wrong.
‘The jacket was made of a denim-like material, it was very sturdy because the pockets had to be really sturdy [to hold everything].
‘Many people wondered where they could buy the jacket, because they wanted to try it out themselves.
‘[When we landed and got off the plane] we were glad to be on holiday. It was summer and we could enjoy the beauty of Portugal.’
Ryanair was contacted for comment.
