The editorial staff of the New York Times Connections Puzzle got super creative today. The puzzle grid is usually filled with words that players are expected to match, but today it was filled with images. Other puzzles do this too, and the adventure always becomes how good was the artist, clip art program or AI that created these little images. Are these mice or rats? Nuts or random stones? A mouth or a face? Is that a triangle, or the Greek letter Delta? And what is that square full of the letter G supposed to represent? (Besides my first initial, that is.) If some of today’s images have puzzled you, read on for hints and, ultimately, answers.

Tips for today’s Connections groups
Here are four hints for the groupings in today’s Connection Puzzle, ranked from the easiest, yellow group, to the difficult (and sometimes bizarre) purple group.
Yellow group hint: Letter after S.
Green group hint: Chomp!
Blue group hint: Damn!
Purple group hint: Think Mississippi.

The theme is things that sound like ‘T’. The four answers are tea, tee (golf), tee (shirt) and Ti (musical note).
The green words in today’s Connections
The theme is objects with teeth. The four answers are comb, equipment, saw and zipper.
The blue words in today’s Connections
The theme is mild oaths. The four answers are fudge, gee, nuts and rats. (Although the picture for the first word shows an ice cream sundae, notice the arrow pointing to the hot fudge.)
The purple words in today’s Connections
The theme is parts of a river. The four answers are bank, bed, delta and mouth.
