Swimming destroyed my hair, but my swimming routine has made it healthy again
A swimmer has revealed the hair care tips she uses to protect her hair from chlorine.
She said her locks were becoming damaged from her frequent trips to the pool, before embracing the ‘effective’ hair care routine.
She shared her advice on Reddit’s Long Hair forum, which has more than 502,000 members.
MAKE A SPLASH
The beauty fanatic wrote this in response to a user’s question about how best to protect her thinning hair from swimming pool chemicals.
“I have a very extra, but effective routine to protect my hair from swimming,” she said, writing under the name Substantial_Lion_752.
“I learned to swim a few months ago and went to the pool two to three times a week.
“I wet my hair with clean water, applied a thick conditioner, then shea butter, followed by two shower caps.
“After swimming, I rinsed my hair immediately and used a moisturizing shampoo and a hair mask. I left it in my hair on the ride home and rinsed it out when I got home.”
She revealed an extra step in her routine to keep her hair healthy.
“Once a week I used a clarifying shampoo made specifically for swimmers, and I also started using Olaplex at least once a week,” she said.
