Toyota and Suzuki are reportedly working together to launch a compact electric car in 2025
According to reports, Japanese automakers Toyota and Suzuki are teaming up to launch a new compact electric vehicle (EV), expected to hit global markets next year. The two Japanese car giants have signed an agreement to share technologies and models worldwide. Codenamed ‘bZ’ (Beyond Zero), this crossover is called the compact version of the Toyota bZ4X, which is available in the international market.
Suzuki and Toyota aim to form a partnership that will lead to the development of compact vehicles. Their partnership has resulted in successful models available in the Indian and European markets.
The partnership is part of an effort by Toyota to improve its EV range. The company has continuously worked to improve and expand its electric vehicle catalogue. At launch, bZ will be Toyota’s budget-friendly EV yet, seeking to attract a wide range of customers, especially in markets that favor electric cars.
Upcoming EV expected features and specifications
Toyota’s e-TNGA platform will serve as the cornerstone for the bZ. This guarantees a strong performance and efficiency basis. It may be noted that the Japanese automaker is also developing a new SUV. This will be marketed in the price range below the Fortuner and will share its platform with bZ.
The Bz is expected to have an impressive range of over 300 kilometers when fully charged. This makes it suitable for commuting on urban roads. The total length is expected to be 3700 mm, width 1700 mm and a height of 1530 mm. The wheelbase is expected to be around 2450mm. This EV will have a power of approximately 118 hp and 294 Nm, making it an ideal and efficient choice for city driving.
This can be seen as a great initiative between the two companies as both Toyota and Suzuki share a significant market share in the automotive market. This collaboration will especially help Toyota, which has been hesitant to enter the EV market, to attract consumer attention in the global market.
This partnership will bring a direct rival in the Tata Punch EV and the upcoming Hyundai Inster.
