Tragic twist after Melbourne mother was fatally stabbed to death in her own home – as new details emerge
Details have emerged of the moments before a Melbourne mother was fatally stabbed in her home.
Vicky Van Aken, 51, died on Saturday after being stabbed multiple times on the doorstep of her home in Bayswater, east of Melbourne, about 11.15am.
Police will allege she was trying to protect a teenage boy who was seeking refuge from a neighbor when the attack occurred.
It is understood that she was at home with two sons at the time.
Police claim the perpetrator was Milorad Zaric.
They claim Zaric, 47, arrived at the Cousin Drive property with a knife.
Police allege the man first stabbed the 51-year-old mother and assaulted her multiple times.
The 47-year-old, who works as a carpenter, then returned home where he was arrested a short time later and taken to hospital under police guard.
It is understood that his family members were repairing the damage in his home when the alleged incident took place.

Homicide detectives returned to the scene later in the afternoon.
Zaric is taken into custody and will appear in court on February 14.
