Long distance flights are rarely comfortable, even in the best conditions.
And now a travel expert has warned that eating the wrong food could make a bad flight even worse before the start.

‘Cabin printing changes can lead to gasses in the digestive system, which leads to bloating, discomfort and even nausea. Choosing the right meal for the flight is just as important as packing your passport. ‘
So what food should you avoid?
Beans and cruciferous vegetables
They may be healthy options full of fiber, but Jessie recommends leaving the baked beans and broccoli off your plate for a flight.
She explains: ‘Lentils, chickpeas, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage can be staples in a healthy diet, but they are also notorious for causing gas and that gas can expand in the air.

“These foods ferment in the intestine, which can lead to uncomfortable bloating once you are in the air.”
Salty snacks
Leave the chips at home, says Jessie who explains that salty snacks are a recipe for a disaster during a flight.
“Crisps, processed meat and easy meals are full of sodium, which can worsen dehydration and lead to water rental,” Jessie explains.
“The recycled air in huts is already very dry, and salty snacks will feel even more slow and swollen.”
Fizzy drinks and sparkling water
Jessie says: ‘The bubbles in carbonated drinks are a fast-track ticket to feel blown up at 30,000 feet.
“You literally take air and that caught gas is nowhere pleasant.”

Chewing gum
Some people think that chewing gum can help fight the impact of air pressure on their eyes, but Jessie warns that it can let you blown.
She explains: ‘It can cause you to swallow more air. It is a hidden cause of a bloated feeling and it is easy to overdo it. ‘
Alcohol
Alcohol is perhaps a tempting prospect of a long -distance flight, but it is rarely a good idea.

FODMAP foods are items that are usually more difficult for people to digest. Jessie chooses three examples of high FODMAP options that can best be avoided.
