Travelers rush to B&M for suitcase that meets Ryanair’s hand luggage rules
With baggage regulations becoming stricter by the day, it can be difficult to find a suitcase that complies with them and is still affordable.
It’s no wonder then that savvy travellers rush to the supermarket after finding a cheap box of crisps that fits under a plane seat – even on Ryanair flights.

And to sweeten the deal even further, there’s currently a 20% discount on offer, meaning the price has dropped from £15 to just £12.
Katie went to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook to share her find and wrote: “I’ve seen a few posts recently about hand luggage on Ryanair.
“Found today at B&M, approved by Ryanair and suitable for the bag under the seat.
“B&M is currently offering 20% off all their trips.”
The suitcase is called a ‘small carry-on suitcase’. Katie shares a photo of it in grey, but it also comes in black.
“Perfect for short trips and business trips, this suitcase’s multiple compartments allow you to store and organize all your travel essentials,” the suitcase’s makers say on B&M’s website.
“This streamlined carry-on is designed to slide easily under your seat in the cabin.”
The dimensions of the suitcase are approximately 20 x 40 x 25 cm.
Others were quick to respond to the post, with one writing: “I have this and it is indeed under the seat.
“It’s been to Australia, Thailand and Greece and it’s still one whole.”
“I bought one today,” added another.
“They do not meet Ryanair’s seat size requirements,” said a third.
“We fly to Gran Canaria on Thursday and pick these up for the children.”
“Perfect for a night or two away without paying,” wrote someone else.
“We have them, they are great and you can use them for free on Ryanair,” another commented.
“I am so happy with this news. I bought 3 of these for our free carry-on and was really freaking out about it,” said someone else.
“Try the small Morrisons cases for £8, they come in all colours too,” suggested another.
Advice for flying with Ryanair
- All Ryanair passengers are allowed to take one small personal bag on board, but it must fit under the seat in front of you and must be no larger than 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.
- Any oversized hand luggage will be refused at the gate and placed in the hold for a fee.
- Ryanair also charges passengers up to £55 for airport check-in
- Anyone who loses their card at the airport will be charged a £20 reissue fee
- Reserve a seat in the first five rows if you want to be the first to leave the plane
- Extra legroom can be found in row 1 A, B, C or 2 D, E, F and row 16 and 17 near the emergency exit.
- The worst seat on a Ryanair Boeing 737-800 is also seat 11A, due to the lack of a window.
To which someone else replied: “I took one and Ryan Air charged me £45 at the gate just before boarding because it didn’t fit in their overhead bin, even though the dimensions were in the Ryan Air baggage guide.
“Most passengers had backpacks with them, some of which were larger than my suitcase. I asked and was told that they were made of cloth and therefore would fit in the slot.
“I was furious!!”
According to Ryanair’s official website, you are allowed to take one piece of hand luggage on the plane, which “must not exceed” then 40cm x 20cm x 25cm”.
“You may not bring hand luggage for infants under two years of age who do not occupy their own seat,” they added.
