Truecaller now offers insurance protection against mobile fraud

Truecaller on Thursday announced an insurance protection plan to shield users from mobile fraud. The plan, called Truecaller Fraud Insurance, will be offered to the app’s paid subscribers on both Android and iOS. The new plan is currently available only in India and will be rolled out to other regions later. The caller ID platform has partnered with HDFC Ergo to offer the insurance protection to users in India. Notably, the company had last month rolled out its Call Scanner feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to prevent AI-based voice fraud.

In a newsroom afterThe company said, “Truecaller today announces the launch of Truecaller Fraud Insurance. The product is offered to premium subscribers and will initially be launched in India for iOS and Android users.” Announcing the insurance product, it stressed that it was introduced to protect Truecaller users from online fraud and scams.

The Truecaller Fraud Protection is offered in partnership with HDFC Ergo, an insurance company in India that is a joint venture of HDFC and ERGO International. Under the plan, users are insured for a total amount of Rs. 10,000. This fraud cover is integrated into the app and users can activate it once they sign up. The company has not shared any details about the circumstances under which the insurance can be claimed or the proof that users need to share to get the covered amount.

However, the feature won’t be available to everyone. While the company said it’s only for Premium subscribers, the product is only offered to annual subscribers. Those who don’t qualify will be given the option to upgrade their subscription to get the benefits.

The company also highlighted that subscribers on certain plans will receive Truecaller Fraud Insurance for free. Finally, Truecaller Family subscribers can opt to extend the protection to all members.
