President Trump said on Tuesday that he would cancel sanctions on Syria, a day before he was expected to meet for the first time with President Ahmed Al-Shara of Syria, who led the rebel alliance that the Dictator Bashar al-Assad drove in December.
“There is a new government that will hopefully succeed in stabilizing the country and retaining peace,” said Mr. Trump, adding that he made the decision after speaking with the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi -Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman.
“I will order the termination of sanctions on Syria,” he said. “Oh what I do for the crown prince.”
Mr. Trump was planning to meet Mr Al-Sharara during his visit to Saudi Arabia, according to an official of the White House and a regional officer with knowledge of Mr Trump’s plans. An official from the White House said that Mr Trump agreed to “say hello” to the Syrian president in Gulf -Koninkrijk, according to the perspool who traveled with the American president.
