Two men run over by train in Odisha’s Balasore | India News – Times of India
BALASORE: Two young men were run over by a train in Odisha‘S Balasore district, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred near the Dandaharipur railway gate between Soro and Bahanaga stations in the Division Kharagpur of the South Eastern Railway on Monday evening, they said.
The deceased have been identified as Hemant Sahu and Rakesh Padhi, they added.
They crossed the railway tracks on a motorcycle, but by then the gate was already closed, a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said.
“The pillion passenger suddenly got off the bike and rode onto the tracks when the Puri Howrah Express was approaching. The other person immediately ran to save him. They were both hit by the train, which then dragged them for almost 100 metres,” he said.
“It appears to be a suicide. An investigation is underway,” he added.
Railway guard Niranjan Behera says he doesn’t know who took their motorcycle.
Police have sent the mutilated bodies for autopsy.
The incident took place near the site of a three-train accident in June last year, killing more than 290 people and injuring more than 1,000.
