Two prisoners playing 'vaanar' in Ram Leela escape from Haridwar jail in search of Sita
NEW DELHI: Two prisoners, who participated in the annual Ram Leela performance in Roshanabad Jail in Haridwar, escaped from jail on Friday.
The prisoners played the role of ‘Vaanar’ (monkey) and went in search of Lord Sita. Although Sita was eventually found, the prisoners never returned.

According to media reports, prisoners Pankaj and Rajkumar, who fled prison, were on trial for murder and kidnapping.
Rajkumar and Pankaj are said to have escaped from jail by jumping over the border wall.
The jail authorities came to know about the incident around 8 pm on Friday. CCTV footage showed that both fled the prison via a ladder.
Over the past three years, the Haridwar Prison organizes annual Ramlila performances during the Navratri festival.
