The British government has issued a new security warning for tourists traveling to Turkey.

On the FCDO advisory page For Turkey, the government advised travelers to ensure when ordering a taxi.

Tourists have been warned that making a ride in an ‘unofficial taxi’ can be extremely ‘risky’.

The new warning for the government said: ‘The acceptance of lifts of drivers of unofficial taxis is very risky.

‘Find a registered taxi, note the registration number before you enter and make sure the rate has been measured.

“App-based taxis and pre-booked taxis are also available on a large scale.”

Ride-Hailing apps such as Uber are available in Turkey and tourists can use these to secure a taxi.

Tourists were also recently warned to ensure that extreme sports in Turkey.

In advice given on the FCDO page, the government insisted on tourists to ensure that they receive ‘full instructions’ before paragliding.

It said: ‘Paragliding is an extreme sport and entails the risk of serious injury or death. British nationals died or were seriously injured while they paragliding in Turkey.

‘Make sure you get full instructions and training before your activity. If you are in the vicinity of where Paragliding activities take place, keep in mind that the landing area can be in a public space.

“Keep a reasonable distance from potential landing zones for your personal safety.”
