‘Understand the chronology’: BJP suggests link between Rahul’s remarks and Chandigarh blast | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: BJP IT chief Amit Malviya on Thursday linked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s statements during his visit to the United States to an explosion in Chandigarh.
Malviya accused Gandhi of making “patently false and misleading” statements about the status of Sikhs in India, saying his remarks could potentially cause unrest in the country.
The BJP leader drew a link between Rahul’s remarks and the Chandigarh blast, suggesting that a series of events may have taken place following Gandhi’s “outrageous” remarks.
Urging people to understand the chronology, Malviya said, “Rahul Gandhi made a completely false and misleading statement in the US. He said that Sikhs in India do not have freedom and equal rights.”
“Yesterday there was an explosion in Chandigarh. The sequence shows that soon after his outrageous remark, internal unrest is brewing in the country. Now connect the dots!” he added.
The incident Malviya was referring to was a low-intensity explosion at a house in Chandigarh, where the owner alleged that two persons in an autorickshaw had thrown a grenade. Police reported no casualties, but some damage to windows and garden pots. An investigation is underway, with police suspecting Harwinder Singh to be involved. Sandhu, also known as Rinda, a Pakistan-based designated Khalistan terrorist. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also launched a parallel investigation.
Malviya’s remarks were in response to Rahul Gandhi’s comments during his address to Indian Americans in the US, where he accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of considering certain religions, languages and communities inferior to others. During his interaction, Rahul specifically addressed a Sikh present and asked, “What is your name, brother with the turban?” and then said, “The fight is over whether a Sikh can wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or whether he, as a Sikh, can go to a gurdwara. That is what the fight is about. And not just for him, for all religions.”
