Unhinged moment unleashes ‘angry Karen’ on formal boutique staff after another customer bought the dress she wanted
Stunning footage has emerged of a mother flying into a rage at a popular formal dress boutique because her daughter missed out on her ‘dream dress’.
Staff at Gossip Gowns in Brisbane’s Coorparoo had just started filming content for one of their signature TikTok videos when unhinged ‘Karen’ burst into the store demanding to speak to a manager.
The staff member continued to film but pointed her phone at the ground when the woman launched into an off-camera tirade about how another girl “sneaked in” and “stole” her daughter’s formal dress.
The video, titled ‘Crazy Karen Encounter’, has gone viral since it was posted two days ago.
Staff explained online that Gossip Gowns, like many other formal boutiques in Brisbane, keeps a register of customers from each school so classmates are not sold the same dress.
The woman’s daughter had been informed of the store’s policy the previous day when she was looking at dresses, but left the boutique without purchasing one to “think about her options.”
Meanwhile, another girl from the teen’s school visited the boutique and reserved the dress.
But the mother demanded the store give her daughter the “blue dress” because she “fell in love with it.”
The mother of a teenager confronted staff at a formal clothing boutique in Brisbane and demanded they give her daughter the blue dress she wanted. The photo shows a shocked staff member after the woman stormed out of the store
“Everyone knows she wanted the blue dress, they’re all talking about it and a few little sneaks came in and took her dress,” the mother said.
“I want (my daughter) to have the dress she always dreamed of.
“So we need to get this right.”
The woman then insisted on knowing which teenager had the nerve to buy her own dream dress without thinking about her daughter.
“Pull it up and show me… I bet I know who it is,” she said.
An employee responded, “We can’t reveal that information to customers.”
This response was well received by Karen.
“No, I actually demand that you tell me, because if it’s the person who I think would look much better in pink, then he’s weak.
‘Put them in green, put them in pink.
‘Give my girl her blue. Please.’
When the staff member said “we’re sorry,” the woman interrupted the phrase that Karen has used as a weapon around the world.
‘You’re going to lose a customer. I’m telling you. I know a lot of people and a lot of young girls come through,” the mother threatened.
Many formal shops keep a register and staff said this was explained to the teenager who had been to the shop the previous day but left without buying the dress so you could think of other options (stock image)
After the staff calmly explained that they still couldn’t give her daughter the dress, the woman stormed out of the boutique.
“You’ll hear from me again,” she said.
The video also captioned that the woman had somehow found out who the girl was – and allegedly ‘intimidate’ her.
Dozens of online viewers praised the young employees for the way they handled the incident.
Others were stunned by the mother’s daring.
“Please let this be a skit,” someone said.
Another wrote: “This can’t be real,” another wrote.
A third added: “I demand it,” like okay? Is that a magic spell?’
The viral video caught the attention of popular Australian influencer Indy Clinton, who also praised the staff.
“I can’t stop laughing, but you guys did such a good job, wow,” Mrs. Clinton said.
Some thought it was a joke or a marketing ploy and believed the ‘Karen’ sounded like Kath or Kim – or comedian Mel Buttle, who has a character called ‘Lyn’ known as a ‘Karen’.
Gossip Gowns is a popular formal boutique in Brisbane with a strong TikTok following
“That’s 100 percent Mel Buttle. This is definitely not a skit,” one person wrote.
“Sounds like Lyn has had enough @MelButtle,” another added.
The Australian comedian has since uploaded her own hilarious TikTok as her character Lyn, denying it was her in the boutique.
