University of Mumbai launches IRM’s Global Level 1 Enterprise Risk as2-credit open elective under NEP | India News – Times of India


The Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED) of the University of Mumbai has entered into a path-breaking collaboration with the India Affiliate of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM India) to introduce IRM’s Global Level 1 Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) course as a 2-credit open elective under the National Education Policy (NEP, 2020). Headquartered in the United Kingdom and established in 1986, IRM is the world’s leading certification body for ERM
exams in 143 countries. IRM is the only agency in the world that issues designations
in ERM with Fellowship at Stage 5/Level 5.
In a world where events such as pandemics, wars, cyber-attacks, fake news, supply chain disruptions, governance irregularities, entrepreneurial failures, succession planning and reputational damage are becoming more common, understanding and managing all types of risk is no longer just a profession, but an essential life skill in any career path. Through this groundbreaking collaboration, students can gain global life skills by becoming risk intelligent in any domain and sector with this internationally recognised 2-credit open elective covering 300 risk areas. University of Mumbai students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any college, discipline or stream (technology, engineering, law, finance, business, entrepreneurship, marketing and more) can enroll for the course to become risk literate. University of Mumbai alumni working in any function (HR, supply chain, finance, audit, governance, procurement, branding) or role (entrepreneur, family business owner, professionals, employees) can also enroll for this course to enhance their skills and start a career in ERM.

As part of the course, students will be provided with a physical textbook, 3 months access to IRM India Affiliate’s online learning portal with study material, course videos and 24×7 AI-enabled academic support through faculty. The exams will be conducted on a rolling basis as per
Students complete the online training. Students are given unlimited attempts to pass the exam within a period of 3 months. Once students clear the internal and external exams, GICED generates a mark sheet as per the academic scheme of the university and 2 credits are awarded under the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). Candidates are then given the option to pay and sit for the supplementary online exam of IRM India to earn the Global Level 1 certificate of IRM UK, which is recognized in 140 countries.
Registrations for the course will open on 15th October 2024. University students and alumni can pre-register by submitting an application to the registration section. University of Mumbai Affiliated College Deans/Faculty/Program Coordinators/HODs who are interested in offering this international course under NEP, and integrating the course into their curriculum.
