A travel expert has revealed the curious reason why aircraft flags are often painted backwards.
Although it is not mandatory, many airlines have a national flag near the cockpit of the plane or on the side of the hull.

According to aviation expert Corry Lane, director of safety at Cirrus Aviation Service, the American code has specific rules for how flags should be displayed.
