Michael Jordan‘s returns to the NBA Public Eye was driven by a ‘passionate’ love for the sport and a desire to see the game ‘played in the right way’, Commissioner Adam Silver has unveiled.

In May it was announced that the Bulls legend came to NBC as a ‘special contribution’, in which the network again broadcast NBA games as part of the new media rights agreement of the competition.

And in an interview with the Then Patrick ShowSilver gave a window on Jordan’s reasoning to play the on-Air role.

“I talked to Michael about it,” Silver said. “He is enthusiastic about it. I think it means that he has to stay with the game. ‘

Silver continued: ‘He is so passionate about it. I mean, we always talk about it, he wants the game to be played in the right way. ‘

Although it is unclear what exactly Jordan will do for NBC, or how often he will appear in the air, Silver is not the only person who has heard of the apparent enthusiasm of Jordan for the new role.

Play-by-Play broadcaster Noah Eagle, who will be part of NBC’s reporting, said that he was told by NBC Sports Executive Jon Miller that Jordan was ‘legitimate’ about the role.

While Jordan owned the Hornets for 13 years before selling his majority stake in 2023, he has usually stayed out of the spotlight since he had completed his historic play career.

Nevertheless, that will now change after NBC and Peacock have announced the addition of Jordan with a shimmering highlights of his match days in May.

In 2002, NBC held broadcasting rights for the NBA more than 20 years ago.

But as part of the new media rights agreement of the competition – as a result of which TNT has lost the rights to games – NBC and Peacock will be broadcast up to 100 regular season matches per season, with more than half of those on NBC, the NBA said earlier.

As part of the new 11-year agreement, ESPN also remains a rights holder, while Amazon has received NBA broadcasting rights for the first time.

Jordan will participate in a Star of Talent at NBC, because the network previously announced that Carmelo Anthony, Reggie Miller and Jamal Crawford would also be part of their reporting.
