Verizon network outage: Carrier says network has been restored after a long day of problems

If you had trouble using the Verizon network on Monday, you weren’t alone. The carrier confirmed to CNET that it has been working to resolve some issues that led to a service outage for some of its users. After a day full of problems, everything should be back online on Monday evening.

“Verizon engineers have fully restored the current network disruption that affected some customers,” the carrier told CNET in a statement Monday evening. “The service has returned to normal levels. If you are still experiencing issues, we recommend that you restart your device.”

A Verizon spokesperson confirmed that it was experiencing an issue Monday morning, and in an updated statement at 4:53 PM ET, the carrier confirmed that the issue was still ongoing but that it was “making progress” on a fix.

“Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service is being restored,” the company told CNET. “We know how much people rely on Verizon and we apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers may have experienced today. We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue.”

It was not immediately known what exactly the problems were and how many people were affected. It is also unknown whether the carrier will issue customers a refund to make up for the lost day of service. When AT&T suffered a network outage earlier this year, it issued a $5 credit to all accounts to “make up for it.”

While we don’t know the exact problem yet, Verizon says the issues were not related to Hurricane Helene, which hit the US this weekend.

The problems started early Monday when a number of Verizon users took to or contacts.

According to Down detectora site where users can self-report outages, problems with Verizon’s service are starting to pop up in major cities, including Chicago, Atlanta and New York. (Downdetector is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)

T-Mobile and AT&T confirmed to CNET earlier Monday that their respective networks are fine and that any issues their respective users may experience could be the result of attempting to connect to a Verizon user who does not have working service.

“Based on the increased reports of Down Detector related to other carriers, we believe our customers may experience issues connecting to other networks,” a T-Mobile spokesperson said. “Outside of some areas where Hurricane Helene recovery continues, our network is operating normally.”
