Waffles sold in more than a dozen states are being recalled because they contain a foreign object that poses a choking hazard
More than 7,000 boxes of frozen waffles have been recalled because they may contain plastic.
Utah-based Kodiak Cakes LLC last month recalled Kodiak Power Waffles Buttermilk & Vanilla “due to the possible presence of soft plastic wrap,” the company said.
The affected products were sold at Costco Wholesale stores in 13 Midwestern states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
As of August 26, no injuries have been reported.

It is unclear what kind of plastic object it was, how big it was, or how it ended up in the products.
This week, the FDA upgraded the recall to Class II status, meaning the products could cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects,” but not serious health problems or death.
Foreign bodies such as soft plastic wrap can cause several hazardous health effects, particularly choking hazards.
Plastic can easily become stuck in a person’s throat, especially in young children and older adults, as they may have difficulty swallowing.
Sharp pieces can also tear parts of the digestive tract, leading to internal bleeding and infection.
In addition, plastic items can contain harmful chemicals, such as BPA. BPA has been linked to infertility, heart disease, and certain cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer.
The recalled products had a best-before date of January 10, 2026 and had lot code 24193-WL4 and UPC number 705599019203. Approximately 7,300 boxes were affected.
The recall affects 114 Costco warehouses in the Midwest, nearly one-fifth of its U.S. stores.
People who purchased the affected waffles can return them to their local Costco for a refund.
